Orthoptera songs can be very useful for identifying species in the field.
The recordings are made without a bat detector, i.e. they are as you would hear them in nature. Several species especially bush-crickets have very high-pitched songs inaudible to many (except young ears). A bat detector, set to 20-40kHz will make them audible and is a great help when looking for Orthoptera in the field.
Further recordings and descriptions of the songs, hints how to distinguish them etc. can be found under the Species Accounts.
