I was very pleased to find this male Phaneroptera falcata at Shell Bay, Studland today. I did search the surrounding area but couldn't locate any further individuals, but there must be plenty of suitable habitat on the Isle of Purbeck so I suppose there is a chance that this has come from a local colony. It was basking on dead bracken when I spotted it, and although it moved around a bit it remained high up in the heather and bracken where it was very conspicuous! No doubt it would be much trickier to find one amongst green vegetation, but I'll be keeping an eye out when I'm next in the area in the hope that there may be some more around.
